该系列影片主要讲述一伙年轻的犹太人在法国做生意的故事，到了第三集，故事背景转入中国温州与上海，故事的主人公转干起卖鞋生意，并有一些中国的生意合作伙伴。。童年时代家庭四分五裂，长大后与母亲（药师丸博子 饰）关系紧张，整天浪荡社会，惹是生非，无业青年长谷部泰之（二宮和也 饰）好不容易找到一份工作，可是在应聘的前夜却因一场殴斗，逃跑时意外摔伤，导致下半身瘫痪，从此再也无法站立起来，轮椅将成为他毕生的伴侣。新生活还未开始便戛然而止，这令泰之倍感绝望。在心理咨询师南英明（伊势谷友介 饰）、病友以及周遭所有人的鼓励下，泰之积极参加康复训练，并渐渐重拾生活的希望，命运之神重新向他展露笑容…… 本片根据心理咨询师长谷川泰三的自传体著作《（生命的咨询）命のカウンセリング》改编。。We take our liberties for granted.
