捕快沈梦星押解囚徒刘大牛去省城大牢的途中，在龙门县遭遇龙门山女匪玉娘和雪蝶的掳劫，二人被俘上山，成为山寨的一员。新的山寨更名为“龙门寨”，玉娘做大当家，沈梦星为二当家，大牛为三当家。后玉娘命沈梦星和大牛出山请龙门书院教书先生陆霖萧来山寨当了军师。众人齐心协力，想把山寨事业经营的辉煌起来，结果各种损点子阴差阳错，误会连连，引来一段段爆笑的糗事。一次陆霖萧拖大牛为自己带一封家书给父亲，大牛前去陆宅的中途救下渔家女婉儿。山寨众人听了婉儿的身世后都义愤填膺，决心帮助婉儿与以穆知县为首的官府恶势力作斗争。。The subtitle of Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet’s first feature, from 1965, “Only Violence Helps Where Violence Reigns,” suggests the fierce political program evoked by their rigorous aesthetic. The pretext of the film, set in Cologne, is Heinrich Böll’s novel “Billiards at Half Past Nine,” which they strip down to a handful of stark events and film with a confrontational angularity akin to Bartók’s music that adorns the soundtrack. The subtlest of cues accompany the story’s complex flashbacks. The middle-aged Robert Fähmel tells a young hotel bellhop of persecutions under the Third Reich| his elderly father, Heinrich, an architect famed for a local abbey, recalls the militarism of the First World War, when his wife, Johanna, incurred trouble for insulting the Kaiser. A third-generation Fähmel is considering architecture, just as the exiled brother of Robert’s late wife, returns, only to be met by their former torturer, now a West German official taking part in a celebratory parade of war veterans. Straub and Huillet make the layers of history live in the present tense, which they judge severely.
