上海解放后，解放军某部八连接受了在南京路执勤的任务。三排长陈喜经不起资产阶级“香风”熏染，瞧不起乡下来看他的妻子春妮，看不惯脸长得黑的八班长赵大大，逐渐丢掉了我军艰苦朴素的优良品质。上海籍新战士童阿男自由主义思想严重，不请假私自外出，受到连长鲁大成批评后，竟扬长而去。八班长赵大大则看不惯上海滩的乌烟瘴气，坚决要求上前线去。指导员针对连队出现的种种问题，感觉到问题严重，决定遵照毛主席教导，开展阶级教育，请来老工人讲述在旧上海所遭遇的种种苦难，并使战士们认清在和平时期中也存在着你死我活的斗争。。Using archival footage and dramatic re-enactments, this documentary deals with the immediate aftermath of the 1918 armistice that brought World War I to an end.
