本片以倒叙手法回顾Houdini传奇的一生从他幼时在纽约的贫苦生活（他当时名为“艾瑞克威斯”）到他成为国际知名的魔术大师，他以向死亡挑战的惊险脱逃术让世人不由得屡次惊叹。。George Harvey Bone is a composer in early 20th century London, who is under stress because he is writing a piano concerto. Due to this stress, he gets black outs when ever he hears dissonances. When he finds himself after the black out in a different quarter of the town, he returns home, to read in the paper that somebody in that quarter was murdered.
